Just finished teaching another kid. He farted, then asked to go to the bathroom. When he came back, he was ready to go, so I said OK. He put his violin in his case and off he went. "Thank you, teacher," I said in Chinese. He looked at me and said "I'm not your teacher," then was out the door.

Finished teaching this kid, man it is hard with the language barrier and all. Seven years old, first time playing a violin Move your arm, then wait a moment, then move your forearm, never let the bow leave the string, etc. etc. He looks at me uncomprehending. It was a little strange walking in there, as I had my MD player cranked up, and was listening to out-takes from Woodstock, with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Band. It makes me quite nostalgic. I was listening to Johnny Winter, what incredible guitar, makes you want to dance. Then I got to thinking about those times, and hitch-hiking. The last time I saw my father, I hitched a ride on Thanksgiving day up I-35 highway in Texas. I don't know how I thought I could make it all the way to North Dallas, but somehow I did, all the way to my doorstep for Thanksgiving dinner, which they were already in the midst of. Those were heady times, free in a reckless kind of way.

We went to the opening of this farmers market here in Taipei over the weekend. Free bus ride there and back. Not much to do, eat fruit and watch dancing.
